Free Help to Decarbonise Southbourne
Coastal BID and BCP Council are now offering support to all businesses in Southbourne to help them to decarbonise in their day to day activities.
Christine Davies-Eyre, an Economic Development Officer for BCP said, “the Council is providing support for local businesses to reduce their carbon impact. We can provide businesses based in BCP with a year’s free access to Climate Essentials, an online platform that creates bespoke decarbonisation plans. There are three hours of one-to-one support for everyone who is signed up to the platform, with monthly webinars based on specific topics relevant to net zero goals.”
Businesses that sign up will gain access to 3 FREE hours of 1:1 support to guide them to create a decarbonisation plan.
In addition, the council have made up to £5000 available in grants for all businesses that make a successful application to help reduce their carbon footprint if they can match the amount.
There is some criteria around this that includes:
All applications must be made by July
All applications must have a Decarbonisation plan
It is a match funding application

As Christine told us, “The decarbonisation grant scheme is separate to the other UK grant schemes, whereby you can still apply even if you’ve received a grant from another scheme, such as growth, R&D, exporting, etc. Applicants will need to have a current decarbonisation plan (which is where Climate Essentials comes in if the applicant doesn’t already have one in place), be based in BCP, and looking to fund a project that would reduce their carbon impact. Amounts are between £500 and £5,000 and would need to be match-funded. So far, I’ve had conversations about projects involving solar panels, insulation, e-cargo bikes, replacing a company van with an electric van, LED lighting - the scope is quite broad.”
